In 1516, when the Spanish colonizers ascended to the South American continent, they saw the local natives wearing a lot of silver jewelry near a big river, and thought that this place was rich in silver, so they called this river in Spanish (Rio) de la Plata, which means "River of Silver", and this river is Argentina's mother river, the Río de la Plata.
Argentina's English name Argentina comes from the Latin word argentinus, meaning "land of silver".
